This novella introduces the reader to the world of Crescent Cove, the setting for Christie Ridgway's new trilogy. I actually read Beach House No. 9 before I read this, so I was familiar with some of the things being introduced. The Beach House No. 9 is almost a character in itself, with the legend of true love a central feature in the story. I'm a Christie Ridgway fan but this book was a bit hit or miss for me. The hero was hard to like because he was so self-pitying and self-centered and it was hard to empathize with him, despite his difficult time in Afghanistan. Beach House No. 9 by Christie Ridgway is a fun and fairly lighthearted contemporary romance. The plot is straightforward and moves at a comfortable pace. Too comfortable on occasion, perhaps. Aside from Griffin referring to Jane as 'honey-pie' throughout the story, their platonic relationship is sharp, funny and entertaining.
